Connect Deel to BurnRateIQ
Last Updated October 11, 2026
Connect Deel and BurnRateIQ brings your team into Headcount: each person's role, department, location, pay and start date. Your payroll forecast then runs on the people you actually employ. The connection only reads from Deel. BurnRateIQ never creates, changes or pays anything in your Deel account.
What You Need
- A Deel account with admin access to your organization, so you can approve the connection.
- The owner, admin or editor role in your BurnRateIQ company. Viewers can't connect systems.
- A BurnRateIQ plan that includes payroll connections: Pro, Scale or the 14-day Pro trial. The One-time plan includes one import. See pricing.
Connect Deel
- Sign in to BurnRateIQ and open Data Sources.
- Under Payroll & HR, find Deel and click Connect.
- Deel opens. Sign in with your Deel admin account.
- Deel lists the access BurnRateIQ asks for. Click Approve (Deel may label it Allow or Authorize).
- Deel sends you back to BurnRateIQ, and the first sync starts. It takes about a minute, and you can keep working. When it finishes, a message tells you how many employees and contractors it added to Headcount.
BurnRateIQ uses one payroll system at a time, so your team isn't counted twice. If Gusto is already connected, the Deel card is grayed out until you disconnect Gusto.
What BurnRateIQ Reads
BurnRateIQ asks Deel for three read-only permissions: people:read, contracts:read and organizations:read. From them it keeps:
- Your Deel organization's name, to label the connection.
- Each person's name, job title and department.
- Whether they work as an employee, a contractor or through Deel's Employer of Record.
- Their country, and their state for people in the US.
- Their pay rate, currency and pay period. BurnRateIQ turns it into yearly pay in US dollars, using the European Central Bank's reference rate for the day.
- Their start date, and their last day if the contract has ended.
BurnRateIQ does not read or store bank details, Social Security numbers, tax IDs, home addresses, documents, contracts' text, invoices or payslips. It stores your Deel sign-in tokens encrypted, and uses them only to read the fields above.
What Happens in BurnRateIQ
- People from Deel appear in Headcount and count toward your payroll forecast, with employer taxes added on top of pay.
- Someone you already added by hand, or imported from another system, keeps their row. Deel doesn't add them twice.
- If you move someone to a different department in Headcount, later syncs keep your choice.
- When someone leaves Deel, the next sync removes them from Headcount.
- Deel bills you through invoices, and those already reach BurnRateIQ through your accounting system. So Deel adds your team, and your books keep carrying past payroll spending.
How Often It Syncs
On Pro and Scale, BurnRateIQ syncs Deel on its own about every 30 days. To pull changes sooner, open Data Sources and click Sync Now on the Deel card. Owners, admins and editors can sync. On the One-time plan, the import when you connect is the only one.
Disconnect Deel
- In BurnRateIQ, open Data Sources and click Disconnect on the Deel card. Owners and admins can disconnect. BurnRateIQ deletes its copy of your Deel tokens right away. People already imported stay in Headcount until you remove them.
- In Deel, open your organization's app and integration settings, find BurnRateIQ among your connected apps and remove it. Deel offers apps no way to withdraw access on your behalf, so this step ends access on Deel's side.
Troubleshooting
- The Deel card says "Pending Approval"
- Deel is still reviewing BurnRateIQ for live accounts. Until it approves, upload a payroll register or add people on Headcount.
- "Only owners, admins and editors can connect systems."
- Your BurnRateIQ role is viewer. Ask an owner or admin of your company to connect Deel, or to change your role.
- "Deel connection was cancelled."
- You declined, or closed the Deel page before approving. Click Connect again and approve in Deel.
- "That connection link expired. Click Connect again."
- More than 15 minutes passed between clicking Connect and approving in Deel, or you finished in a different browser or BurnRateIQ account. Start again from Data Sources in the same browser.
- "The connection was rejected" or "Authorization expired"
- Deel no longer accepts BurnRateIQ's access. Usually someone removed the app in Deel, or the admin who approved it lost admin access. The card shows Needs Reconnecting: click Reconnect and approve again.
- "This connection needs more access than it was granted."
- Disconnect Deel in Data Sources, then connect again and approve every permission Deel lists.
- "Exchange rates are unavailable right now" or "The connected system is not responding"
- A service BurnRateIQ relies on didn't answer. Wait a few minutes and click Sync Now.
- Some people are missing after a sync
- The sync message counts the people it skipped. BurnRateIQ skips anyone with no start date or pay in Deel, and anyone already in Headcount from another source. Add the missing details in Deel, then click Sync Now.
- Pay shows "Looks Low" in Headcount
- Yearly pay under $10,000 (or $2,000 for a contractor) usually means Deel holds the pay in a currency or period BurnRateIQ couldn't convert. Check the pay period and currency in Deel, or correct the amount in Headcount.
- "Refreshing your numbers is part of Pro."
- Sync Now comes with Pro and Scale. Your import from connecting stays. See Plan and Billing to upgrade.
